INTRO:

Last Day on Earth: Survival. The survival shooter Last Day on Earth is set in a post apocalyptic world: in 2027 the world saw an outbreak of an unknown infection that destroyed almost all the human race. And it didn't stop there.

BASIC GAMEPLAY

Being centered around surviving, Last Day on Earth revolves around a number of different gameplay mechanics:

Exploring various locations
Looting & Farming Materials
Combat
Crafting & Construction

That, of course, staying alive in this game. Because when the character dies, you lose all the loot you are currently carrying.

CRAFTING & CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM

The crafting system is what makes this game good. In the early game, you will not be able to craft a lot of stuff and struggle, but the “recipes” unlock as you level up. The fun happens when you have established a good base, and begin to craft some wicked weapons.
All the items in Last Day on Earth are “as-it-is”, there are no “rare” nor “legendary” items. I kind of like and unlike this kind of setting, as it makes the game balanced, but there is also no way to become disgustingly powerful otherwise…
Crafting is also very straightforward. You farm for the required material and create the item, that’s it. There is definitely a lot of room for improvement for the crafting system, but we will have to wait and see.

CHARACTER SKILLS

Character skills are something new that was added on later. These skills are unlocked slowly as you farm in the various locations and slowly gain experience points. What I didn’t like, was that the skills are leveled up randomly… Which kind of doesn’t make much sense.

BATTLE SYSTEM

Last Day on Earth does not have a complex battle system – There are no “attack skills”, “combo attacks”, or “ultimate attacks”… But there are sneak attacks, hit-and-run. Not really the most exciting combat system on planet Earth, but it works. Plain and simple.

PLAY EXPERIENCE

I checked back with Last Day on Earth after a long time, and it made me rage. Yep. My old character is lost in a sea of updates, and I can’t seem to retrieve it no matter what. Hours of my past gameplay is lost, and that is not a pleasant welcome back gift.
Thankfully, the game seems to have made good enough improvements to appease my anger. Firstly, the gameplay does not seem to be as difficult as before. No more dying in the first hour of gameplay due to hunger and thirst (or maybe that is because I already knew what to do). Secondly, leveling up seems to be faster, unlocking more items quicker.
Well, at least that saved me some time trying to get back to where I was previously. But truthfully, I am kind of torn between thankful for a better/faster gameplay and a more difficult one. Apart from the gameplay balance, there are quite a few bits and pieces of new stuff:

Pet dog.
Character customization.
Gun crafting improvements.
Some new items.
Character skills.

But the drop rate for crafting materials still kind of depends on your luck. This game got me hooked again for a long time, but I stopped just after I have explored enough… Who knows if another update might wipe off everything again? Well, I shall wait for a more stable version of this game before diving in deeper.

GRAPHICS & STYLE

No, this game does not have “crazy 3D console-level graphics”, but it is still mighty decent. While it does lack that certain “wow factor”, I will still consider the art style and illustrations to be good for a mobile game.

SOUNDTRACKS

Last Day on Earth does not have any upbeat nor “epic combat music”, there is only a couple of low profile “environmental” music. It fits the theme of the game well, but also at the same time, I wish there are more soundtracks.
