Spider Man : Web Of Shadow
INTRO:-
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows is a video game title encompassing three versions: a full-3D action-adventure game set in an open world for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360; a 2.5D side-scrolling brawler/platformer for the Nintendo DS; and a 2.5D sidescrolling beat em up action game for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable (called Amazing Allies Edition).
The game received generally positive reviews from critics, who singled out the boss fights, destructive combat, use of an original story, voice acting and open-ended nature. However, the game's choice system received mixed reviews; although some praised how the player is able to create a dynamic experience with their choices, others were critical of the system's limitations. In addition, reviewers criticized the storyline's poor execution, bothersome camera controls, the inability to free-roam after completing the game, lip-syncing issues and the ugly graphics.
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, along with most other games published by Activision that had used the Marvel license, was de-listed and removed from all digital storefronts on January 1, 2014.
GAMEPLAY:-
Spider-Man Web of Shadows is a third person action-adventure video game, set in an open-world that resembles Manhattan, although some buildings and areas are replaced with their comics counterpart, such as Fisk Tower or the Trask Building instead of the real-life Empire State Building. The gameplay is very similar with that of previous Spider-Man titles (namely Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3 and Ultimate Spider-Man), with the player taking the role of the titular hero and all his spider-like super-human abilities. Thus, the game features "web-slinging" (which allows the player to travel very fast across the map by attaching a web line to a nearby building), wall crawling, and a complex combat, featuring a large number of moves and combos. The game improves on the combat system from previous games, with the player now being able to fight not only on ground, but on the walls of buildings and in the air as well; the wall combat is possible due to the game including enemies that, like Spider-Man, can walk on walls, while air combat is possible due to flying enemies, which can be fought only by using a new type of attack called "web strike". Web strike can be used as both an attack and a mean of transport, because it consists of Spider-Man attaching a web to the nearest enemy and pulling himself to that respective enemy; Spider-Man can either hit the enemy, or jump over him when he is very close to him, as some enemies can counter web strike and will hit Spider-Man when he touches them.
At specific points in the story, various choices appear that have the player choose between the Red Path or the Black Path. These choices influence the story, the way other characters interact with Spider-Man and even the ending of the game. In addition, there is a new feature called the "reputation bar", which becomes red when the player chooses the Red Path or prevents various crimes around the city, and starts turning black when the player chooses the Black Path or causes mayhem and destruction in the city. As they progress through the story, the player also has the ability to summon various allies that will assist them during fights: if the reputation bar is red, the player can summon heroes to help them out (Luke Cage, Moon Knight and Wolverine), wheras if the bar is black, the player can summon villains for help (Black Cat, Vulture, Rhino and Electro).
The player is able to switch between Spider-Man's traditional red and blue costume and the black symbiote suit at any time during gameplay, with both suits having their own separated sets of upgrades; upgrade points are earned from defeating enemies or completing specific tasks, and are used to purchase new combat moves for each of the two suits individually. Chris Scholz from Shaba Games commented that the developers "worked on really separating the black and red suits to give the player a different feel." For example, red and blue-suited Spider-Man is fast and agile, while symbiote Spider-Man is stronger and more destructive.
The mini-map on the screen is also different from the style used in previous Spider-Man games. The traditional 2-D overhead view has been removed, replaced by a new 3D map with an "X", "Y" and "Z" axis which shows the player's position in three-dimensional space (north and south, as well as vertical position). Also, as a Wii exclusive, there are 6 alternate costumes (Spider-Carnage for the black suit, and Spider-Armor, Ben Reilly, Spider-Man 2099, Cosmic Spider-Man and the Iron Spider suit for the red suit).
Although the player is unable to free-roam after the storyline's completion, there is a secret code: watching the credits, selecting continue, watching the credits again and selecting continue. If the code is done right, the player can replay the game with all of their previous upgrades already made.
PLOT:-
Manhattan is infested with symbiotes and S.H.I.E.L.D. and various super-heroes are trying their best to stop the invasion. A depressed Spider-Man ignores the battle around him and makes his way through the invasion, looking for Mary Jane. After helping some S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and police officers fight off several symbiotes, Spider-Man eventually finds her with Luke Cage. However, a mysterious figure appears and attacks him, leaving him unconscious.
In a flashback taking place four days earlier, Spider-Man has yet another encounter with Venom, during which a piece of Venom's symbiote attaches to him, recreating his black suit. The suit makes Spider-Man much more powerful and aggressive and he easily defeats Venom. However, as Spidey checks on an injured Mary Jane, Venom escapes. Spider-Man discovers that he now has more control over the black suit, being able to take it on and off at will, and follows the ambulance Mary Jane was placed in to a hospital, where all of a sudden two rival gangs show up and start shooting at each other. Spidey manages to defeat them with help from Luke Cage, who explains him that the two gangs, the Rolling Sevens and the Park Avenues, are at war and that it's their duty to stop them before anyone gets hurt. After defeating numerous members from both gangs across the city, Spider-Man confronts their respective leaders and convinces them to have a peaceful meeting at the Harlem Park. Later that night, as Spider-Man watches over the meeting between the gang leaders and Luke Cage, he spots several assassins armed with advanced weapons and armors on the rooftops around the park. He manages to defeat them before they ruin the meeting and finds evidence that they are secretly responsible for the gang war. Meanwhile, the meeting doesn't go as well as planned and the two leaders begin arguing before eventually pulling out their guns. Depending on the player's choice, Spider-Man either shows the leaders the evidence he found and they agree to stop fighting, apologizing for their actions and promising to help out Spidey whenever he needs, or he lets all the remaining members from both gangs have a violent shootout in the park, before intervening and defeating them all. Regardless the choice, the gang war is over and Spider-Man heads to Fisk Tower, after concluding that the assassins are working for Kingpin.
Spider-Man arrives at Fisk Tower, only to find Black Cat leaving and begins chasing her. During the chase, several of Kingpin's goon show up and attack Spider-Man, but luckily Moon Knight arrives as well in his Mooncopter and deals with them, while Spidey has a brief fight with Black Cat. Upon defeating her, Spider-Man goes to confront her at her apartment, where Black Cat reveals that she's secretly working against Kingpin and still has strong feelings for him. Depending on the player's choice, Spider-Man either rejects her and goes to talk to Moon Knight, or returns her feelings and spends the night with her. Spider-Man now joins forces with either Moon Knight or Black Cat in order to stop Kingpin's illegal activities, defeating several of his men across the city and even foiling their attack on the courthouse. He also tracks down Vulture, who has been mass-producing Goblin gliders for Kingpin's goons to use, and defeats him, leaving him all webbed up on a nearby panel; depending on the player's choice, Spider-Man either leaves Vulture for the police, or threatens him not to mess up with him ever again, so that Vulture would help him out whenever he needs (although Vulture becomes an ally in both scenarios). Spider-Man eventually finds and confronts several of Kingpin's goons on the roof of the MetLife Building, only to be suddenly interrupted by numerous seemingly deranged civilians, who attack them with their hands and teeth. Spider-Man manages to defeat both Kingpin's men and the civilians, but a news helicopter appears and records Spidey throwing civilians off of the building, leading to the police to believe him to be a murderer. Unknown to them, the civilians have been secretly infected by symbiotes.
Spider-Man later encounters Wolverine in Hell's Kitchen, who attacks him, believing Spidey to be a symbiote. After a short battle, the two settle their differences and begin working together to track down more infected citizens. After finding and defeating several infected civilians across the city, Spider-Man eventually tracks down Venom, who is kidnapping and throwing people into symbiote pods, which turn them into symbiote monsters. The two engage in a battle across the city, during which several symbiote pods get destroyed. However, Venom escapes once again and there are still numerous pods across the city turning innocent people into symbiotes. The situation soon gets out of control and a S.H.I.E.L.D. team led by Black Widow arrives and quarantines Manhattan, setting up numerous quarantine camps across the city for the infected citizens. Electro begins rampaging through the camps, looking for his sister, but Spider-Man gives chase. He eventually defeats Electro and Widow shoots him to stop him for good. However, Electro's infected sister accidentally approaches him and infects him with a symbiote that heals him and turns him into a powerful symbiote monster, which escapes before anything can be done about it.
Unable to reach Iron Man, Ant-Man, Mr. Fantastic or Beast, Spider-Man decides to break the Tinkerer out of Ryker's Island, as he needs a scientific genius to find a countermeasure to the symbiotes. After enlisting either Moon Knight or Vulture (depending on the player's choice) to take him to the island, Spider-Man breaks into the prison and releases Rhino from his cell, teaming up with him to easily defeat the guards and free the Tinkerer. Before escaping, Spidey is given the choice of either tricking Rhino into returning to his cell, or releasing him so that he could also help stop the invasion (although, like in Vulture's case earlier, Rhino becomes an ally in both scenarios). Spider-Man returns with Tinkerer to Manhattan, only to find it covered in symbiote goop and full of infected people, as the invasion has reached maximum scale. S.H.I.E.L.D. and Black Widow team up with Kingpin to stop the invasion, while the Tinkerer designs a device that will destroy all the symbiotes without harming the hosts, and which must be installed on the Trask Building, the tallest building in Manhattan, so that the sound waves could reach the entire city.
While the Tinkerer begins constructing the device, Spider-Man aids S.H.I.E.L.D. in dealing with the symbiote invasion in the streets of Manhattan, helping with APC patrols and evacuations in various places around the city. After the Tinkerer stops working on the device, demanding Kingpin to fund his work, Spider-Man goes to confront Kingpin at his tower, but in order to do so, he first needs to destroy his security system against the symbiotes, which is harmful to him because of the black suit he's wearing. However, this allows the symbiotes to crawl up the tower and break in, so Spider-Man helps Kingpin's goons reactivate the security system and chase the symbiotes away. After doing so, Spider-Man talks to Kingpin in his office, who agrees to fund the construction of the Tinkerer's device and also sends his men in the streets to help deal with the invasion, considering that this will improve his public image as people will see him as the real savior of the city rather than Spider-Man. Although Spidey disagrees, Kingpin later gives him several tasks as well, first sending him to defend a rooftop where some of his goons are located from a symbiote attack, with help from several S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and Black Cat. With Black Cat's help, Spidey then tracks down and confronts the still symbiote infected Electro in Central Park, who created his own offspring of symbiotes called "Electrolings" to help reach the city's power supply. Spider-Man defeats Symbiote Electro, stopping his plan, and, depending on the player's choice, either lets him break free from the symbiote's control on his own, or removes the symbiote by force. Regardless the choice, Electro is free from the symbiote's control and agrees to help Spider-Man stop the invasion.
Spider-Man later helps defend the S.H.I.E.L.D. base and Moon Knight's rooftop from a symbiote attack, before heading to a nearby church to help Wolverine with an evacuation. After the evacuation is complete, Wolverine gets infected by a symbiote and attacks Spider-Man. Spidey manages to defeat Symbiote Wolverine and, depending on the player's choice, either lets him remove the symbiote himself, or breaks him in half to get rid of the symbiote, although the latter choice causes Wolverine to become furious with Spider-Man. Nevertheless, Spidey contacts S.H.I.E.L.D to come pick Wolverine up and then leaves to find Mary Jane, eventually finding her with Luke Cage at the Harlem Park. Mary Jane and Cage are trying to evacuate the last remaining civilians in Harlem to the S.H.I.E.L.D. base, which is located in the other side of Manhattan, and Spider-Man agrees to help them, after learning that S.H.I.E.L.D. have several beacons against the symbiotes that create a safe corridor for civilians to pass. While Mary Jane and Cage go on their own, Spider-Man escorts the convoy from a beacon to another, until eventually reaching Fisk Tower. However, when there's no sign of Mary Jane, Spider-Man starts looking for her, which leads to the beginning of the game.
After finding her and being left unconscious by the mysterious figure, now revealed to be a symbiote infected Black Cat, Spider-Man breaks the promise he made Mary Jane earlier and dons the black suit once more, before heading to a rooftop where he confronts Symbiote Black Cat, apparently the leader of the hive. In the middle of the fight, Mary Jane shows up as well and deals with the symbiotes, while Spider-Man defeats Black Cat, throwing her to another rooftop. This removes the symbiote, but also severely injures Black Cat. Depending on the player's choice, Spidey either shows complete devotion to Mary Jane and leaves Black Cat in her care, or infects Black Cat with a more powerful symbiote which heals her and which she can control, but this causes Mary Jane to leave in tears.
Meanwhile, the Tinkerer's device is complete and S.H.I.E.L.D. install it on the Trask Building, but a symbiote infected Vulture leads an attack to destroy it. After helping S.H.I.E.L.D. defeat the "Vulturings" (Vulture's own offspring of symbiotes), Spider-Man confronts Symbiote Vulture and engages him in an aerial battle above the Trask Building. Upon defeating him, both Spider-Man and Symbiote Vulture fall from the building, but Spider-Man survives while Vulture crashes on the ground, although he survives as well and, in the process, is separated from the symbiote. Having successfully foiled the symbiotes' attack, Spider-Man takes the unconscious Vulture with him to the top of the building and prepares to finally stop the invasion, but just as he is about to activate the device, Vulture wakes up and tells him that once set off, it would mean losing the black suit and its power forever, whereas removing the device shall grant him complete control over the entire city. Depending on the choices made throughout the game, Spider-Man either follows his moral code and activates the device, which destroys all the symbiotes, including the black suit, and reverts all the civilians back to normal, or listens to Vulture and destroys the device, refusing to remove the black suit ever again. Regardless, Spider-Man learns that Venom is attacking the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier and decides it's time to end their conflict once and for all.
After enlisting Moon Knight or Vulture to take him there, Spider-Man sets up bombs to destroy the helicarrier, while the heroes or the villains deal with the symbiotes. After everyone evacuates, Spidey is confronted by a giant five-headed Venom, also known as "Venomzilla". He is able to destroy four of the heads, before trying to reach out Eddie Brock, which surprisingly works, as Venom emerges from the giant symbiote monster to speak with Spider-Man, asking for his help. Depending on Spider-Man's current and permanent status (having chosen to activate or to destroy the device) and the player's final choice, one of the following scenarios will happen: Spider-Man helps Brock realize his mistakes and then lets Venom sacrifice his life to destroy the remaining symbiotes (Spider-Man activated the device, the player chooses the Red Path); Spider-Man absorbs the black suit from Venom one last time to easily pull him into the hellicarier's engine and kill Venom (Spider-Man activated the device, the player chooses the Black Path); Spider-Man temporarily removes the black suit to help Brock, only for Venom to commit suicide after rejecting his help (Spider-Man destroyed the device, the player chooses the Red Path); Spider-Man tricks Venom into killing himself (Spider-Man destroyed the device, the player chooses the Black Path). Regardless, Venom dies and Spider-Man is able to escape from the helicarrier before it explodes and crashes into the ocean, killing Venomzilla.
The ending of the game depends on the choices made throughout the story:
▪ If the player chose the Red Path for most of the game, Manhattan is saved and slowly returning to normal. Spider-Man reconciles with Mary Jane and takes her for a swing across the city.
▪ If the player chose the Red Path for most of the game, but infected Black Cat with the symbiote, Manhattan is saved, but Mary Jane is still angry with Spider-Man. He calls her and leaves a message in her voicemail, hoping that someday she would forgive him for his actions.
▪ If the player chose the Black Path for most of game, Spider-Man becomes the new leader of the symbiote army and rules over Manhattan, with Black Cat as his "queen" and new lover. Meanwhile, Black Widow, Kingpin and the Tinkerer team up with a symbiote infected Wolverine, sending him to find and kill Spider-Man.
▪ If the player chose the Black Path for most of the game, but left Black Cat in Mary Jane's care, Spider-Man rules alone and vows to reclaim Mary Jane, while Black Widow, Kingpin and the Tinkerer team up with Symbiote Wolverine to stop him.
